EXPERIMENTAL MINDSET

2 IDEAS FROM ME

  • An experimental mindset tests the reality of your most meaningful beliefs through small testable experiments.  This is essential to live your best life because it adjusts your ideas to match reality based on feedback and bypasses the brain traps of overestimating predictions, defending past choices, avoiding disconfirming evidence, and fear of failure.

  • Hollow-bones curiosity, a beginners mind, a don’t know mind, and a passion to evolve toward truth are essential to a healthy experimental mindset. The test is not whether you got the result you expected, but whether you try, investigate, learn, and evolve. The hard truth is that experimental mindsets are uncomfortable. You don’t get immediate certainty, permanent answers, or ego security. However, you do gain adaptability, evidence-based clarity, and self-trust based on reality-tested insight.

2 QUOTES FROM SAGES

  • “Truth emerges more readily from error than from confusion.”—Francis Bacon

  • “It doesn’t matter how beautiful your theory is…If it doesn’t agree with experiment, it’s wrong.”—Richard Feynman

1 QUESTION FOR YOU TO EXPLORE

  • Which of the following methods have you found most helpful in cultivating an experimental mindset?

    • Cognitive Reframing Using Hypothetical Language (My hypothesis is…)

    • Behavioral Activation (Perform Nano Experiments for short periods of time.)

    • Optimize Effort, Energy, Learning, and Friction rather than Ego Validation.

    • Seek Disconfirming Evidence (What Evidence Would Prove my hypothesis wrong?)

    • Reduce experiment size and duration to “nano experiments” to shrink risk and increase learning loops.

    • Separate Identity from Results (Experiment failed, not I failed.)

    • Keep an experiment log to grow confidence.

    • Practice “Intellectual Humility” (I might be wrong about this.)

    • Normalize Learning as Identity (I am someone who tests, learns, and evolves.)
