AGGREGATES
2 IDEAS FROM ME
Embedding investigation of the five aggregates into your daily mindfulness practice can be life-changing. The five aggregates are processes which create all our experiences in terms of form, feeling, perception, volition, and consciousness. Investigation of aggregates dismantles the illusion of a permanent “self” by directly seeing the impermanence (arising and passing) of each. This reduces clinging, anxiety, and self-centered suffering.
Examination of aggregates reveals the causes and mechanics of suffering at their root in real time. This exposes the unsatisfactoriness built into clinging and cultivates wisdom through direct seeing and experience. It’s helpful to embed investigation of aggregates into the fourth foundation of mindfulness (insight) as part of your daily meditation practice.
2 QUOTES FROM SAGES
“If we fail to acknowledge impermanence, we suffer more. If we embrace it, we become free.”—Sogyal Rinpoche
“Life is like a flash of lightening in the dark. You must appreciate each moment.”—Shunryu Susuki
