OFFERING OPPORTUNITY
2 IDEAS FROM ME
Escaping Plato’s Cave and it’s “road of trials” will provide you with an offering opportunity to share your hard=earned insights with others. Joseph Campbell describes this opportunity as “the magic flight” step in the “return” phase of the Hero’s Journey. Don’t rush to return with your fragile yet transformative insight. Take the time to recover and prepare by hardening yourself with this new insight. The return through the cave is 10x more challenging than the escape. Wisdom, compassion, and truth do not come home easily.
Gaining insight is one thing. Sharing it effectively requires a completely different educational skillset.
2 QUOTES FROM SAGES
O Me! O Life! by Walt Whitman
O Me! O life!… of the questions of these recurring,
Of the endless trains of the faithless, of cities fill’d with the foolish,
Of myself forever reproaching myself, (for who more foolish than I, and who more faithless?)
Of eyes that vainly crave the light, of the objects mean, of the struggle ever renew’d,
Of the poor results of all, of the plodding and sordid crowds I see around me,
Of the empty and useless years of the rest, with the rest me intertwined,
The question, O me! so sad, recurring—What good amid these, O me, O life?
Answer.
That you are here—that life exists, and identity,
That the powerful play goes on, and you may contribute a verse.
Education is not the filling of a pail, but the lighting of a fire.”—W.B. Yeats
